Having just launched my brand, I would like to give you a first introduction to gleamspun.
My inspiration for new patterns often starts with a yarn, followed by the stitch pattern. Developing and testing the right texture is a central part of my design process. Quite often, I start with a more elaborate idea and gradually reduce it until what feels like its essence remains. The construction usually comes last, because it should support the design idea in its truest form – although it often takes up the most time in the design process.
Sweaters, cardigans, shawls, cowls, hats, socks: all of them are part of my design practice. Each category comes with its own distinct characteristics and challenges. What I aim to keep constant is the pattern reading and knitting experience. It should stay consistent and clear.
Currently, I am working on new ways to present my patterns so they feel approachable and easy to follow. You should be able to knit from them without interruptions to your knitting flow. Just as colours can visually flow and blend into one another, I hope the knitting experience feels equally immersive.
Getting into a gentle flow while knitting feels both engaging and relaxing. It is one of the reasons I enjoy knitting as a craft so much. It can help thoughts stop circling and settle into a grounded rhythm, carried by your hands and the stitches. Since I am both a knitwear designer and a passionate knitter, the process of knitting a pattern is just as important to me as the finished knit.
Creating wearable pieces is equally important to me. It would be a delight to have the knits made from my patterns become part of your daily wardrobe rotation. Knits you can reach for, wear, and enjoy again and again over many years.
As someone who rarely knits a pattern only once, I aim for designs that invite personal adaptations, multiple yarn choices, and individual colour expressions. Hopefully, you'll feel encouraged and inspired to truly make my patterns your own.
At the moment, I am working on my first patterns and look forward to sharing them with you soon. Until then, you are warmly invited to follow my progress on Instagram or sign up for my newsletter to stay informed about new releases.
Thank you so much for visiting gleamspun.
Warmly,
Nora
